Our Story
Beginning of Art
The company began in 1988, founded by Phil Reich, whose artistic journey started much earlier in his kindergarten years. Even at a young age, Phil’s talent was apparent, producing art that was wall worthy. His kindergarten teacher recognized his natural ability and commissioned him to create a Halloween poster, marking the beginning of his artistic accolades. Phil’s passion for art continued to flourish throughout his education. During his high school art class, he painted an oil painting that caught the eye of a faculty member and was sold before he could even take it home. This early recognition was a testament to his skill and dedication.
Phil’s artistic prowess can be attributed to the influence of his family. His mother, who holds an art degree, has exhibited her work as both an artist and craftsman, providing Phil with a nurturing environment rich in artistic expression. Additionally, his aunt, who also attended art school, regularly exhibited her work at various shows and events. This familial support and exposure to the art world undoubtedly shaped Phil’s career and led to the establishment of the company in 1988, which continues to thrive on the foundation of his early experiences and family influences.
Beginning of Photography
Phil’s photography career began during a memorable family trip to Europe. Equipped with a modest 110mm film camera, he eagerly captured images of people, landmarks, and anything that piqued his interest. This early experience ignited his passion for photography and instilled in him a profound appreciation for the art of capturing moments in time. Phil cherished the memory keepsakes recorded on that film, each photo serving as a tangible reminder of his travels and the emotions they evoked. This formative experience laid the foundation for what would become a lifelong dedication to the craft of photography, continually inspiring him to explore new horizons and hone his skills.
Beginning of Sports Focus
After playing college football, Phil got a sideline pass and decided to buy a better camera. This decision marked the beginning of his journey into professional photography. Armed with his new camera, Phil took advantage of his sideline access to capture dynamic photos from up-close perspectives. His passion for photography grew as he climbed through the stands to get full stadium shots from different angles, providing a comprehensive view of the event that few could match.
Recognizing the potential in his newfound hobby, Phil expanded his horizons by visiting other stadiums. With each visit, he honed his skills and built a diverse portfolio that showcased his unique ability to capture the essence of sporting events. The combination of his football background and photographic talent allowed him to see and document moments that others might miss. Eventually, Phil’s dedication and unwavering commitment to excellence launched his career as a professional photographer, turning his love for the game and photography into a rewarding profession.
The Golf Adventure Begins
Friends invited Phil to go to practice rounds of the Masters at Augusta National Golf Club, and it proved to be an experience that left an indelible mark on him. Phil was amazed by the beauty of the most famous golf course in the world! The perfectly manicured greens, the iconic azaleas in full bloom, and the serene ambiance captivated him instantly. This profound admiration led Phil to visit Augusta National every year for over 20 years, where he meticulously took new photographs of the iconic golf holes and landmarks. His annual pilgrimage became a cherished tradition, allowing him to document the subtle yet significant changes in the course’s landscape through his lens.
Phil’s passion for golf course photography did not remain confined to Augusta National Golf Club. Inspired by the beauty he captured annually at Augusta, it didn’t take long for Phil to travel to other golf courses and take photographs. His journey took him to renowned courses worldwide, each offering unique vistas and challenges. Through his travels, Phil built an impressive portfolio that showcased not only his technical skills as a photographer but also his deep appreciation for the artistry and grandeur of golf course design. This exploration allowed him to connect with the global golf community and share the splendor of these remarkable landscapes with a broader audience.
Birth of Golf Hole Oil Paintings
Phil enhanced many of the photos that he shot over the years and improved them visually as art templates through oil paintings. His artistic talent allowed him to transform ordinary scenes into extraordinary works of art. With art, Phil was able to add the flowers that were not in full bloom, bringing vibrancy and life to the picture. He could replace an overcast sky with a spectacular blue sky adorned with white fluffy clouds, creating a more uplifting and picturesque atmosphere. Additionally, Phil’s skillful hand could remove obstacles that blocked the scenic view, providing a clearer and more aesthetically pleasing composition. While today such enhancements are commonly achieved using Photoshop for realistic effects, Phil’s ability to achieve similar results through oil paintings showcases his remarkable creativity and craftsmanship. Years ago, such transformations were not as common, making Phil’s work stand out as a testament to his artistic vision and dedication to visual improvement.
Team Formed
Phil has successfully recruited a distinguished team of artists to contribute their unique styles and talents to the Rich Image Art portfolio. This esteemed group includes Phil Reich, Arthur Milligan, Mark Champion, Sonny Marr, and other adept staff artists who work collaboratively under the Rich Image brand. Closed One Door, Opened Another
Many years ago, we made a strategic decision to close our retail stores and concentrate our efforts on the online marketplace. This transition allowed us to better serve our customers and expand our reach. Less than a year before the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, we also decided to stop exhibiting at large shows, further solidifying our focus on digital platforms. Our main store at the time, StadiumArt.com, became the hub for our unique art and photo prints. In 2025, we embraced a new chapter by rebranding as Rich Image Art, reflecting our commitment to offering high-quality prints under a recognizable brand name. While our catalog predominantly features sports-themed artwork, we are excited to announce that we also possess a vast collection of non-sports pieces. These will be meticulously edited and curated for our new online stores, RichimageArt.com and Richimage.net. Through this rebranding and expansion, we aim to provide an even broader array of visually stunning art to our valued customers.
